Application steps
Choose the right Finnish visa type
Start by identifying the visa category that matches your purpose of travel — tourism, family visit, business, medical, or study. Finland has no visa office in Jordan; Norway represents Finland for Schengen short-stay visas in Amman. Applications are submitted via VFS Global Amman following the Norwegian process, and the decision is made by the Norwegian Embassy on Finland's behalf.
Register and complete your application on UDI (Norway)
Go to the UDI portal, create an account, and select "Visitor's visa" with Finland as the main destination. Complete the questionnaire, fill the form, and pay the visa fee online. The system generates a Schengen.pdf — print and sign it, and bring it to your appointment.
Prepare the supporting documents
Refer to the Royal Norwegian Embassy Amman checklist (official PDF) (the same checklist applies for Finland under the representation arrangement) and prepare:
- Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond your departure date, issued within the last 10 years, with two blank pages.
- Jordanian ID card, or valid Jordanian residency permit if you are a foreign resident.
- Schengen.pdf signed from UDI.
- Receipt of the visa fee paid via UDI.
- Stamped bank statements covering the last 3 months.
- Employment letter and a recent salary certificate.
- Round-trip flight reservation and hotel bookings covering every night of your stay in Finland.
- Schengen travel insurance with minimum coverage of EUR 30,000.
- Recent passport-sized photo meeting Schengen specifications.Book your biometrics appointment at VFS Amman
Book your appointment with VFS Global Norway in Amman, which receives Finland applications on behalf of Norway. Lodge your application no later than 15 calendar days before the start of your visit, and no more than 6 months in advance.
Attend the appointment and pay the VFS service fee
At your appointment your ten-fingerprint scan and facial photo are taken, your file is reviewed, and your passport is held. The visa fee was paid via UDI, but a VFS service fee (around 20 JOD) is collected in cash at the centre. Biometrics are mandatory for applicants aged 12 and above.
Track processing — Norway decides on Finland's behalf
Your file is forwarded to the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Amman, which decides the application on behalf of Finland. Processing typically takes up to 15 calendar days; cases referred to UDI in Norway may take up to 45 calendar days. For background, see Embassy of Finland Riyadh's Schengen page.
Collect your passport and visa
Once a decision is issued your passport is returned to the VFS centre. The visa sticker will indicate Finland as the main destination even though it was decided by the Norwegian Embassy. Collect your passport in person with your ID, or use the optional courier service. Before you travel, verify the visa data (name, number of entries, validity dates) against your passport, and keep copies of your bookings and insurance ready in case of border checks.
FAQ
What is a Schengen visa?
A unified visa that allows entry to 29 European countries within the Schengen area on a single visa, with a stay of up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
How long is a Schengen visa valid?
Usually granted short-term (up to 3 months) with single or multiple entries. In some cases it can be issued for longer — up to 5 years.
Can I travel between Schengen countries on a single visa?
Yes, a Schengen visa allows entry to and free travel between all 27 Schengen countries with no extra visa required.
What is the most common reason for refusal?
Weak ties to Jordan, failing to convince the embassy you will return, weak financial standing, or incomplete documents. We help you strengthen your file before you submit.
Does the application require a personal interview?
Usually not — most applications are decided on the documents. In special cases the embassy may request an interview.
