Application steps
Choose the right UK visa type
Start by identifying the visa category that matches your purpose of travel — Standard Visitor (tourism, family, short business), Marriage, Medical, or longer-term study/work routes. Refer to the official UK Visas and Immigration portal and the Standard Visitor visa guidance for full rules and fees in JOD/USD.
Complete the application on GOV.UK and pay the fees
Go to Apply for a UK visa on GOV.UK, create an account and complete the online application form in English. The visa fee (UKVI) is paid online at the end of the application; for a Standard Visitor it varies by validity (6 months / 2 / 5 / 10 years). After payment, the system routes you to VFS Global Amman to complete biometrics.
Prepare the supporting documents
Refer to the Documents you must provide page on GOV.UK and prepare:
- Passport valid for the entire duration of your stay, with at least one blank page.
- Jordanian ID card, or valid Jordanian residency permit if you are a foreign resident.
- Stamped bank statements covering the last 6 months.
- Employment letter and a recent salary certificate.
- Round-trip flight reservation and hotel bookings covering every night of your stay.
- Invitation letter if your visit is family-related.
- Recent passport-sized photo meeting UKVI specifications.
- GOV.UK application confirmation page and fee receipt.
Personal appearance is mandatory at the VAC for biometrics.Book your biometrics appointment at VFS Amman
Book your appointment with VFS Global UK Amman. To find the closest centre officially use the GOV.UK find a visa application centre tool. Submit at least 3 weeks before your departure date, and no more than 3 months in advance for a Visitor visa.
Attend the appointment and submit biometrics
At your appointment your GOV.UK application barcode is scanned, your ten-fingerprint scan and facial photo are taken, and your supporting documents are submitted as required. Biometrics are mandatory for applicants aged 5 and above. The whole appointment takes about 15–30 minutes. Optional paid services (Priority / Super Priority / Walk-in / On-Demand) are available to speed up the appointment or processing.
Track processing at UKVI
Your file is forwarded to the relevant UKVI regional decision-making centre. Standard Visitor processing typically takes around 3 weeks, with Priority (5 working days) and Super Priority (24 hours) available for an extra fee. Track your application via your VFS account or GOV.UK account.
Collect your passport and visa
Once a decision is issued your passport is returned to the VFS centre or by courier if you opted for that. Standard Visitor visas may be issued for 6 months or 2/5/10 years multiple-entry depending on your file. Before you travel, verify the visa data (name, number of entries, validity dates) against your passport, and keep copies of your bookings and insurance ready in case of border checks.
