Application steps
Choose the right Chinese visa type
Start by identifying the visa category that matches your purpose of travel — tourism (L), family visit (Q1/Q2/S1/S2), business (M), medical, study (X1/X2), or transit (G). Jordanian ordinary passport holders need a visa for mainland China. For all categories see the Notice on China Visa Policy from the Chinese Embassy in Amman and the Embassy of China in Jordan home page.
Complete the application on the COVA portal
Go to the official COVA portal of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (cova.cs.mfa.gov.cn), create an account, and complete the electronic form (8 pages). After completion, print the full form and the confirmation page and sign them. Errors or missing fields are a leading reason for refusal.
Book your appointment on AVAS
Go to the AVAS appointment system, select the Chinese Embassy in Amman and book your appointment. Booking is mandatory before attending.
Prepare the supporting documents
Refer to the Notice on China Visa Policy and prepare:
- Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date, with two blank pages, issued within the last 10 years.
- Jordanian ID card, or valid Jordanian residency permit if you are a foreign resident.
- Printed and signed COVA form (8 pages + confirmation page).
- Recent passport-sized photo meeting Chinese visa specifications (33×48 mm, white background).
- Round-trip flight reservation and hotel bookings covering every night of your stay.
- Employment letter and a recent salary certificate.
- Invitation letter from a Chinese company for M visas, or from a relative for Q visas.
- Stamped bank statements covering the last 3 months.Attend the appointment and submit
Attend at the Chinese Embassy in Amman (No. 19 Mecca Street, Um Uthainah) at your booked time. Office hours: Sunday–Thursday 09:00–12:00. Documents are submitted and your passport is held. Visa fees are paid on collection (next step), not at submission. Biometrics are required for many categories — follow the officer's instructions. Standard processing is 5–10 business days.
Collect your passport and pay the fees
Once a decision is issued, collect your passport in person from the embassy with your collection slip, or appoint a representative. Pay the embassy fee in full at collection (cash or card). The visa sticker indicates the number of entries (Single / Double / Multiple) and the duration of stay.
Final checks before travel
Before you travel, verify the visa data (name, number of entries, validity dates, allowed stay length) against your passport, and keep copies of your bookings and insurance ready in case of border checks.
