Application steps
Choose the right Australian visa type
Start by identifying the visa category that matches your purpose of travel — for tourism, business and family visits, Jordanians typically use the Visitor Visa (Subclass 600). Sub-streams: Tourist (visit), Business Visitor (short business), Sponsored Family, or Approved Destination Status. Subclass 600 allows stays of 3, 6 or 12 months depending on the case, with the decision made by the Department of Home Affairs.
Create an ImmiAccount and start the application
Go to the official ImmiAccount portal, create an account and select Visitor Visa (subclass 600) – Tourist stream (apply outside Australia). The full process is online: form completion, document upload and payment. For details on the tourist stream see the Tourist stream overseas page.
Complete the application and upload supporting documents
Inside ImmiAccount, complete the questionnaire and upload digital copies of:
- Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date, with at least one blank page.
- Jordanian ID card, or valid Jordanian residency permit if you are a foreign resident.
- Recent passport-sized photo meeting Australian visa specifications.
- Stamped bank statements covering the last 3–6 months proving financial capacity.
- Employment letter and a recent salary certificate.
- Round-trip flight reservation and hotel bookings covering every night of your stay.
- Cover letter explaining purpose of travel and itinerary.
- Sponsor invitation and undertaking if you apply under the Sponsored Family stream.Pay the embassy fee
Pay the Visa Application Charge (VAC) online by credit card at the end of the ImmiAccount application. Fees vary by category (Tourist around AUD 200, Business lower, Sponsored Family higher). The fee is non-refundable even if the visa is refused.
Provide biometrics at the Australian Visa Application Centre (AVAC)
After submission you may receive a Biometrics Letter to attend the Australian Visa Application Centre in Amman, operated by Teleperformance under contract with the Department of Home Affairs (Al-Husseini Group Commercial Building, 8th floor, Zahran Street between 7th and 8th Circle, Amman 11821). Hours: lodgement and enquiries 08:30–15:30 Sun–Thu; passport collection 15:00–17:00 Sun–Thu. The centre does not accept couriered or posted applications. Biometrics are not requested from every applicant — follow your letter's instructions. For the current operator and channel verify on the Australian Embassy Amman Visas & Migration page.
Track processing on ImmiAccount
The Department of Home Affairs reviews and decides the application. Typical processing for Subclass 600 Tourist stream is around 11 to 28 days as of early 2026, but varies with season and demand. Track and update your file in ImmiAccount. For general inquiries see the Visas and Migration page of the Australian Embassy in Amman.
Receive the decision and travel
On approval you will receive a Grant Notice by email — the Australian visa is fully electronic (eVisa) and is not stuck into your passport. Print or save the notice on your phone to present at check-in and arrival. The visa is linked to your passport number; if you renew the passport before travel, transfer the visa to the new passport via ImmiAccount.
