Application steps
Choose the right Indian visa type
Start by identifying the visa category that matches your purpose of travel — India offers an electronic visa (e-Visa) for five categories: e-Tourist, e-Business, e-Conference, e-Medical, e-Medical Attendant. For most Jordanians the e-Visa is the fastest and cheapest channel and removes the need to visit an embassy. Longer-term or sticker visas (Employment, Student) require a regular application via the Indian Embassy in Amman visa consultation or the VFS India centre in Jordan.
Start your e-Visa application on the official portal
Go to the official India Visa Online portal of the Ministry of Home Affairs, select the right e-Visa category (e-Tourist for most travel), and complete the form with personal details and travel information. Apply at least 4 days before your travel date and no more than 120 days in advance.
Upload digital documents
Inside the form, upload digital copies of:
- Passport bio data page (PDF or JPG, valid for 6 months beyond departure, two blank pages).
- Jordanian ID card, or valid Jordanian residency permit if you are a foreign resident.
- Recent passport-sized photo (JPEG, white background, 350×350 pixels, under 1 MB).
Wrong file format or oversized images are leading reasons for online refusals.Pay the e-Visa fee
Pay the embassy fee online by credit card or supported payment wallet on the official portal. The Tourist e-Visa fee for Jordanian nationals is around USD 40. The fee depends on category, number of entries and nationality.
Receive the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)
The decision is typically issued within 3–5 business days by email as an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). Print it and present it on arrival in India. The visa sticker is not affixed to the passport before travel — it is stamped at the airport on entry.
Sticker-visa alternative
If you are not eligible for an e-Visa or need a longer stay, complete the form on India Visa Online and book a slot with VFS India in Jordan to submit your passport and documents. The sticker visa is decided by the Embassy of India in Amman within 5–10 working days.
On arrival in India
Present your passport with a printed copy of the ETA to the immigration officer at your port of entry. Facial biometrics are taken on arrival and fingerprints may also be captured. The e-Visa allows entry only at 28 designated airports and 5 major seaports (Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, etc. — see the full list on the official e-Visa page). Make sure your point of entry is on the list before booking your ticket.
